Errors and Omissions (E&O) Insurance

Errors and Omissions Insurance

Licensees in Nova Scotia are required to carry Errors and Omissions (E&O) insurance, per Part Three of the Nove Scotia Real Estate Commission (NSREC) By-law. E&O insurance is required by the NSREC but the NSREC does not administer the E&O insurance plan. The licensee E&O insurance plan is administered by the Nova Scotia Association of REALTORS®(NSAR). For questions about E&O insurance, contact the NSAR.

E&O insurance provides coverage for licensees in cases where a consumer has incurred financial loss as a result of a licensee’s error or omission. E&O insurance is provided by REIA Centra Claims.

Consumers Should Seek Legal Counsel

If a consumer believes they have incurred financial loss due to a licensee’s error or omission, they should contact their legal counsel about what their options are, which may fall under the licensee’s E&O coverage.

Licensee Reporting Requirements

Upon receipt of verbal or written notice of an action against them for an alleged error or omission, a licensee should contact their broker and give immediate notice to their insurance provider.

For further information, licensees should contact their broker or NSAR.
